Jacquelyn Olejniczak's Portfolio

role: design & coding

software: notepad, photoshop

languages: HTML, CSS, jQuery, Javascript

I worked with the photographer who wanted a portfolio set up for all of her photographs. I presented different designs to her and she went through and pointed out what she liked about each one and we went from there coming up with the layout. She took inspiration from different photographer's portfolios and wanted to implement some similar ideas. The initial gallery page with each category is done with jQuery. The gallery pages are also done with jQuery, with an edited lightbox plugin. This project was good to help develop a design that the client likes when they have no initial idea of what they want their website to look like.

Eagle Formal Wear Website

role: design & coding

software: notepad, photoshop

languages: HTML, CSS

A formal wear store near where I lived needed a website redesign because theirs was terribly outdated. I went with a simplistic look and took on inspiration from other formal wear websites and designer clothing websites. There were several categories in which the owner wanted to display which took some time to devise a way to present all of the information easily. I still update the site with new information and prices.

Marissa Giambrone's Portfolio

role: coding

software: notepad

languages: HTML, CSS, jQuery

I was given a site layout designed by Marissa and had the task of turning her vision into a real, working website. In her design, shown in the view project on the left, she wanted an image gallery so I turned to jQuery because of its versatility and ability to do galleries very easily. I found a good plugin, galleriffic, and went through and modified it to fit the website's need. The hardest part was probably going through and learning how the plugin worked to modify it, but the result turned out perfectly.

Custom Wordpress Theme

role: design & coding

software: notepad, Photoshop

languages: PHP, HTML, CSS, some jQuery

I originally had the idea to make a Wordpress theme to use as my portfolio site, but then later decided not to. I made this theme from scratch and made all the graphics. I never completely finished it because I had changed my plans for my site, but I did the front page, a portfolio page, and blog. You can download this theme and use any parts of it if you want to. Please leave the copyright if you use it.

Sworn to Kill Clan Site & Forum

role: design & coding

software: notepad, Photoshop

languages: HTML, CSS, PHP, mySQL

I used to be an active member in the video game Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and was in a clan. I made a website to post information and just have a place to chat. The site is still used by members, even though the community for this game is dying quickly. Some things that made this site easy for members was the login box on the front page, the recent topics, the ventrilo and gameserver feeds, and the recent news. The login box, recent posts, and recent news are all pulled from the forum using PHP and mySQL. I also custom designed the forum to match the website and have the same overall look and feel. If you have questions on how I did something, feel free to ask.

Java Tron

role: server coding, server/ client communication

software: jGrasp

languages: Java

This was a group project for my third Java programming class where we had to make a game or other interface for user’s to interact with over a network. We chose to make a grid-based game that is kind of like a multiplayer snake. There are similar games online, but we had to figure out how to code the entire project using Java. I was in charge of the server coding and communication with the clients. Some interesting ideas we used in our code was the use of packets to transfer information from one client to others. The project was only about 5 weeks, so the game works with 4 people on a network, but is still not completely finished and in the alpha stages of development.

Graph made in Flash coded in AS3

role: design & coding

software: Flash CS4

languages: ActionScript3

For my Human Factors class we were assigned a group project to find a way to display data or the progress of an item using some Gastalt principles and Bertin's visual variables (size, hue, opacity...). We decided on trying to represent the price of gasoline in the United States over the past years. I thought it would be a good projectto do in flash to allow the user to move something and see the effect. I made a slider at the bottom of the stage and drew graphs that are representative to the data that was collected about the certain gas prices.

Tbit vs. Zombies

role: design & coding

software: Flash CS4

languages: ActionScript3

My final project for my Interactive Digital Media class was to create a game using Flash CS4 and AS3. I chose to do a side scrolling game that incorporates money, an inventory, and upgrades. The project was only about 3 weeks long so I was unable to add lots of extra features and graphics. Right now the game is in working order and quite fun. Some of the hard parts of coding this was the different bugs that people found when I got them to beta test it.
